Food Poisoning Treatment: Simple Home Remedies

Food poisoning is also known as acute gastroenteritis. It is an acute inflammation of the lining of the stomach and small bowel. Normally, foods consumed at picnics, restaurant and at home where hygienic condition laps, cause food-borne illness. Foods like pastes, milk, custards, meats, cream filled pastry, fish and many various kinds of deserts usually cause food poisoning.

An individual who has consumed a contaminated food suffers from serious abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes, that person may experience prostration and shock. Normally, food poisoning signs last a few hours and the patient recovers from the illness. When a food poisoning illness is mild in nature, then simple home remedies can help the patient to recover fast. Below are few home remedies tips. They are as follows;

1. First of all, you must be on bed rest since physical activities will make the condition worse. Avoid consuming any kind of food or drink until you experience nausea and vomiting.

2. To relieve spasm or pain you can apply mild heat to the stomach. This will also reduce the tendency to vomit.

3. Once you are sure that the vomiting is stopped, you can intake some warm drink like tea, barley or rice water.

4. Keep consuming lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. But do not take milk and caffeinated drinks.

5. Make a powder by grinding a mixture of 1 Tbsp of poppy seeds, 1 tsp of edible gum, 1 tsp of cardamom powder, ½ tsp of nutmeg powder, and 2 Tbsp of sugar. Keep taking this powder every 2 hours.

6. Make a mixture of 5 – 6 chopped basil leaves, ¼ tsp sea salt, and some black pepper in 3 Tbsp of curd. Take the mixture 4 times a day for one week. This will help you to recover from food poisoning illness soon.

These are few food poisoning remedies which you can try at home. They are simple and easy but very effective. But if the food poisoning signs remain more than 24 hours, then you must admit yourself in a nearby hospital to avoid any kind of complication.
