Most of the food poisoning incidents form in kitchen. The main reason is the negligence of cooks while preparing food. In truth, incidents related to food poisoning can easily be averted if some precautions are taken. Below are some tips which must be practiced in kitchen. They are:

Food Poisoning:Image via Wikipedia

1. Always wash kitchen utensils properly after the use. You must thoroughly clean dishes, counters and cutting boards in order to prevent food poisoning. The simple way to disinfect the cutting boards is to use a solution of 1 tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach added to 1 liter of water. Spray the solution over the board and wash it thoroughly. Once it is done, you must dry the board completely.

2. In case, there is an undercooked turkey leftovers, remove the stuffings and store them separately. The turkey leftovers must be stored in refrigerator. However, after 3 days of storing the turkey leftovers, you must throw them out.

3. You should always store food items, especially meat in refrigerator. Otherwise, bacteria will grow rapidly over the food at kitchen temperature. Keep a thing in mind that an appearance or a smell cannot be used to gauge food contamination. It is because, in some cases, contaminated food does not change either in appearance or smell.

4. Food items such as raw meat and fish must always be kept away from cooked foods within the refrigerator. The best place to keep raw food is the freezer container in the refrigerator.

5. Avoid consuming food exposed to room temperature for hours. This applies to the foods at buffets too which usually are left for hours uncovered.

6. During the summer, food items can easily be contaminated by bacteria because of boiling temperature. Seaside or pool area is an ideal place for bacteria during this season. Hence, it is always advised to store your food properly in refrigerator.

7. This may sound like weird but it is recommended not to handle cash when you are about to serve food. This rule strongly applies to the food handlers at hotels and restaurants. The bank notes are the primary carriers of bacteria and can easily cause food poisoning.

The food poisoning signs are very similar to those of flu if you closely observe. The usual symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sometimes fever. You can look for more symptoms of food poisoning in other post. As a result of these symptoms, you lose lots of fluids from your body leading to dehydration which is fatal.

You can avoid dehydration and also cure food poisoning if you apply some home remedies at home. These remedies are simple and easy. In addition, you will get relieved from the food poisoning signs soon.

You are forced to vomit in order to remove the contaminated food items from your stomach. Though it is a good sign, it will cause dehydration later. Hence in order to sustain the fluid level in your body, you must keep drinking liquids often. It is recommended to intake energy drinks or glucose. Another option is to take water containing oral rehydration salts.

Prepare a solution which is a mixture of fruit juice, corn syrup or honey, and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Then stir the solution well and drink it. This solution will not only restore the lost nutrients in your body but also help to remove the toxins from the body.

Take some mint leaves and make an herbal tea. Then add some blackberry, raspberry and a few drops of chamomile essential oil. This tea will get rid of any abdominal cramps and relieve you from stomach pain. You can drink this tea once in the morning and once in the evening.

These are some home remedies which you can try at your home when you are affected by food poisoning. You can also try other food poisoning remedies to relieve the food poisoning signs.

An individual who has consumed a contaminated food suffers from serious abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes, that person may experience prostration and shock. Normally, food poisoning signs last a few hours and the patient recovers from the illness. When a food poisoning illness is mild in nature, then simple home remedies can help the patient to recover fast. Below are few home remedies tips. They are as follows;

1. First of all, you must be on bed rest since physical activities will make the condition worse. Avoid consuming any kind of food or drink until you experience nausea and vomiting.

2. To relieve spasm or pain you can apply mild heat to the stomach. This will also reduce the tendency to vomit.

3. Once you are sure that the vomiting is stopped, you can intake some warm drink like tea, barley or rice water.

4. Keep consuming lots of fluids to avoid dehydration. But do not take milk and caffeinated drinks.

5. Make a powder by grinding a mixture of 1 Tbsp of poppy seeds, 1 tsp of edible gum, 1 tsp of cardamom powder, ½ tsp of nutmeg powder, and 2 Tbsp of sugar. Keep taking this powder every 2 hours.

6. Make a mixture of 5 – 6 chopped basil leaves, ¼ tsp sea salt, and some black pepper in 3 Tbsp of curd. Take the mixture 4 times a day for one week. This will help you to recover from food poisoning illness soon.

These are few food poisoning remedies which you can try at home. They are simple and easy but very effective. But if the food poisoning signs remain more than 24 hours, then you must admit yourself in a nearby hospital to avoid any kind of complication.
